History

Beechwood Homes

Beechwood Continuing Care was first established through the vision of a group of individuals and Methodist ministers. They recognized there was a need for a not-for-profit faith-based community that served the physical, social and spiritual needs of seniors in WNY. Upon the purchase of a parcel of 24 acres of land in Getzville, the Beechwood Residence opened its doors in 1964. Less than ten years later, the Beechwood Nursing Home admitted its first residents. (In 2006, both became known collectively as the Beechwood Homes.

Today, the Beechwood Homes has the distinction of being the first nursing home in WNY to transition from a traditional institutional model to a person-centered care model, complete with households and neighborhoods. We call our person-centered initiative – “Welcome Home.”

Beechwood was the first nursing home in Erie County to partner with Hospice Buffalo to offer hospice support to our residents. We have created a designated hospice unit for those individuals in Erie County who need skilled nursing hospice care.
