FAQs: About Our Continuing Care Community

Choosing the right place for yourself or a loved one is one of the most important decisions you can make. At Beechwood Continuing Care, we understand that senior living is about more than just a place to live—it’s about finding a true sense of home, community, and peace of mind. Whether you’re exploring independent living, assisted living, or seeking the compassionate support of a skilled nursing facility, our goal is to make the process clear and comforting.

Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our services, care options, and the unique advantages of being part of a continuing care community.

What is Beechwood Continuing Care?

Beechwood Continuing Care is a nonprofit retirement community and senior care center offering a full spectrum of services for older adults. As a continuing care community, we provide a variety of arrangements so that residents can transition as their needs change — from independent living and assisted living residences to skilled nursing facilities and hospice care.

What types of living arrangements are available?

We offer several options to meet different needs:

Independent Living: For active adults who want to enjoy maintenance-free senior housing and senior living apartments.

Assisted Living / Assisted Care Facility: For seniors who need some help with daily tasks while living in a comfortable assisted living residence.

Skilled Nursing Facility: For those who require 24-hour senior care, medical supervision, or are in need of a nursing home.

Short-Term Rehabilitation: In our rehabilitation center and rehabilitation facilities, for recovery after illness, surgery, or injury.

Hospice Care: Compassionate end-of-life care offered within our senior care community.

What is the difference between assisted living and skilled nursing?

Assisted living is ideal for residents who need help with some daily activities (like bathing, dressing, and medication reminders) but still wish to maintain independence. Skilled nursing or nursing homes offer more intensive, 24-hour medical care under the supervision of licensed nurses, often suited for more advanced health needs.

Do you offer short-term rehabilitation services?

Yes. Our Wesley Rehabilitation Center and other rehabilitation facilities provide short-term, goal-oriented care for seniors recovering from surgery, joint replacement, stroke, or illness. These programs are designed to help residents regain independence and return home or move to another level of care within our senior living community.

What amenities and services are included?

Residents in our senior living home, senior housing, and assisted living facilities enjoy benefits such as:

  • Maintenance-free living and housekeeping if choosing independent living.
  • Personalized support with daily tasks in assisted living.
  • 24-hour caregiving or nursing support in our skilled nursing facility.
  • Access to wellness programs, social activities, outdoor spaces, and community engagement.

Is Beechwood Continuing Care licensed and accredited?

Yes. As a senior health care facility and elderly care facility, our continuing care community meets state and federal regulations for assisted living residences and nursing homes. Our long-standing reputation in Western New York (WNY) reflects our commitment to quality senior care.

How does hospice care work at Beechwood?

Our hospice care program is integrated into our senior care community, delivering comfort-focused support for residents and families during end-of-life. It emphasizes dignity, personalized care plans, and a holistic approach, including emotional and spiritual support.

How do I choose the right level of care for my loved one?

Selecting the right senior care arrangement depends on current health, mobility, independence level, and future needs.

If the individual is active and wants minimal assistance, independent living may be appropriate.

When daily tasks (e.g., bathing, medication, meals) become difficult, an assisted living facility or assisted care facility may be better.

When 24-hour supervision, medical care, or rehab is needed, a skilled nursing facility or rehabilitation center is the right fit.
Our admissions team at Beechwood Continuing Care will help assess needs and suggest the best fit within our senior care community, whether independent living apartments, senior housing, or a nursing home.

What makes Beechwood Continuing Care different?

As a not-for-profit senior care community with nearly 60 years of service in WNY, our focus is both on quality of care and quality of life. We provide a true continuum of care in one organization—from independent living to hospice care—so residents and families benefit from continuity and familiarity within a trusted senior homes environment.
